FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How far in advance should a Creative Session be booked?

Keli McCoy Photography generally schedules a month in advance. In high demand seasons (such as fall) book 2 months in advance to ensure a prime date. Keli schedules on weekends only (summer is the exception) so time slots fill fast.

What location will our shoot take place at?

Keli is a natural light shooter and sessions are held on-location. This spot varies to fit families interests. In the end, this is your choice! Parks, beaches, golf courses, zoo’s and even your back yard are all fabulous choices! Keli shoots a tight frame most of the time, so the destination does not have to be elaborate. There are many options in the Lake Norman area!

What type of props can be used during our shoot?

Props are great incorporated into children shoots. A few ideas: lemonade stands, kite flying, finger painting on large canvases, lollipops, gardening, bubbles and dress-up sessions!  Feel free to bring up any ideas you may have in your consultation.  Let’s have some fun!

What are your recommendations for clothing?

Bring on the color! Especially with the little ones…bright, vibrant colors bring out skin tones and facial features. You can not go wrong with textured fabrics or dressing in layers. This creates a very contemporary look and gives endless options when pairing backgrounds. Accessories are the best – fun hats, jewelry and crazy socks! The most incredible pictures come alive when a kid…is just being a kid. Let’s get away from the boring uniform white shirts on all family members!  When planning for multiple family members – pick two base colors that compliment each other and then add an additional accent color. (Example:  Base colors navy and turquoise | Accent: bright apple green) Plan a few family members in a print and the others in a solid. If color scares you, then pick fabrics like cable knits and corduroy. Hundreds of options for inspiration are listed on Keli’s first Pinterest board titled Clients: Wardrobe Inspiration at www.pinterest.com/mccoyphotos

What happens after the shoot?

Following the session, the creative process continues! Keli will edit each of the final images with color, contrast and skin touch-ups. Your photos will be posted on a private viewing page on www.kelimccoy.com within 2 weeks. The pictures will be up for two weeks from the date posted. Feel free to share with family and friends. Orders need to be placed within the two week time frame please. A minimum $220 print order (due at the time the order is placed) is required. There are no forced packages, so you are open to order any combination of products you wish! Canvas, prints, collages and high resolution disks (with printing rights) are just a few of the options. Keli McCoy Photography will provide you with a pricing list upon booking and will give you a brochure the day of your shoot. When should a Maternity session be booked?

We suggest scheduling a date between 32-35 weeks.  Please plan ahead to get on the calendar at least a month out.

When should a Newborn Session be booked?

The timing of the Newborn Session can be tricky since the actual birth date can change. Our suggestion is to book a date at the beginning of your third trimester. The best newborn sessions are within the first 2 weeks of birth. This timing allows for newbies to be asleep and usually willing to do most poses!  It also avoids the baby acne period which usually shows up after two weeks. Keli has a transportable newborn setup to shoot in your comfortable home (with decent natural light) or Keli welcomes hosting in her home as well.

When should a High School Senior Session be booked?

We love to get outdoors and shoot with the great weather! Plan at least a month and a half in advance and book between the months of May-November of your senior year. Seniors can plan on shooting for an hour and a half and at least one outfit change is recommended for a variety of shots.

Do you offer Gift Certificates?

You bet. Amy amount. Most people purchase a Creative Session – plus extra towards prints/products.

What should I do with any digital images I purchase?

Be sure to back these up right away. Store your high resolution disk in a safe fire-proof box, but in addition be sure to back those files up! These photos will be the most important years down the road.
